UPDATE FROM YOUR PRESIDENT

July 2011
From Your Past and Present (?) President
"It is what it is...When live gives us lemons...God never gives us more than we can handle"! Just a few of the catch phrases I hear during the school year. Wouldn't it be great If we could also conjure up phrases like..."I have the greatest students, I've learned so much this year...I can't wait to get back to music, my students and my passion for teaching".
As you begin a new year...I wish you all of the latter phrases and more! I intended to write this letter some time ago, thanking all of New Mexico's finest, (you) for your dedication to our profession, and specifically to NMACDA and my Presidency these past two years. BUT...I find myself in a new term as your President and grateful or the opportunity to serve once more. Please read the minutes found elsewhere on this website. They will allow you to see how this came about. I am so proud of our 2009-2011 Board, and look forward to working with our newly elected board.
Clinicians have been chosen, audition titles are available at the Music Mart, and when you read the minutes, which I know you will...there is more info there about auditions, committees, your board members and the recent completed election for President-elect.
On another note, I am proud to join your ranks as a music consultant/coordinator for a new charter elementary school in Las Cruces. The J. Paul Taylor Academy will be the first charter elementary in our area, with strong emphasis on the arts. Getting my elementary music hat back on is exciting, and I am already learning so much from the other classroom teachers.
Retirement...duh! Unlike other professions, musicians don't usually hang up their talents or passion for kids...That would be John and I. Between family, church job, community choir, NMSU student teachers, playing in two bands, and Johns LCPS job we are busier than ever. I tell you this because whether you are a new teacher or on the back side of your career...opportunities to serve abound everywhere. To all our new members- WELCOME to the Land of Enchantment! As I tell others across our nation, New Mexico Directors do more with less!
To all returning teachers, I hope summer served as a time to renew, relax and connect with family. You deserve it. Our new board is committed to continually strive for excellence in all we do for you and our organization! Lots of ideas are being generated, workshops, etc. to improve our service to you. Please send emails to the board with ideas, places you would like to serve, and to keep us informed of your musical endeavors. We need to cultivate our organization to be more -for more people! Again, welcome to a new year, a new board, and hopefully great musical opportunities for all!
Call anytime for any reason! 575-644-6863
Sincerely,
Diane
